Mission StatementThe mission of the Poway Historical and Memorial Society is to bring together persons interested in
collecting and preserving artifacts and information of historical value pertaining to Poway and its immediate environs. Through these endeavors,
we can share with our children the heritage of our community --- from the pioneer days to the present. |
 |
HistoryPoway has an unique and fascinating history. In order to preserve
this history, a group of citizens banded together to form the Poway Historical and Memorial Society. In the summer of 1964, Mr. Ray Stock
organized the first meeting at the Old Timers' Picnic at Felicita Park in Escondido. The Constitution and by-laws were adopted the following
November & Mr. Stock was elected the first President. The initial membership was fifty-three; today we have over 200 members. |

The PresentIn a cooperative effort between the City of Poway and the Historical Society, a museum facility
has been established in Old Poway Park on Midland Road. We have a railroad that runs through the park, the Nelson House (a replica of an
old pioneer house), I.O.G.T. Hall (Independent Order of Good Templars 1881), blacksmith shop, and other facilities used for social events.
All work in the park is done by dedicated volunteers preserving Poway's unique heritage. |
Future GoalsContinue preserving our history through artifacts, buildings and
research, and to disseminate this information to our school childre, researchers, or any interested individuals. |
Social InvitationsThe history, romance, and nostalgia of Poway is fascinating.
Over the years, many changes have and will continue to take place, but the romance of the past has always intrigued all of us. We invite you to
join The Poway Historical and Memorial Society and become an integral part of our community. |
